Difficulty level in video games?

So I play rpgs like Dragon Age Origins and The Elder Scrolls; Morrowind and Oblivion. So far, I have liked Morrowind the best, because I can work hard at leveling up and be rewarded by finding myself to be stronger than my foes, should I wish to spend the time seeking out enemies. In recent rpgs, all the enemies level up with you, and you have to keep up with them in terms of armor and weapons. So I'm basically not looking forward to fighting 2 or 3 bandits in glass armor wielding swords of doom or fighting a level 30 mudcrab. I just don't feel there's any reward for leveling up, just a lot of punishment. In Oblivion particularly I groan when I go up in level. So what do you guys think about lowering the difficulty level a little bit for every level or so? What about whenever the game just seems too hard? Is it cheap, or understandable? I've heard opinions of all kinds. Keep in mind, I'm only talking about RPGs. Games like shooters and puzzle games like Silent Hill seem pretty well-balanced already.

Please do not be rude or condescending. If you're a 1337 and like to put down people don't answer. I want to know what people think, not what people believe they "know".|||i love the elder scrolls series but i didn't like the leveling system in oblivion.i would much rather it be like morrowind where if i find a weapon at level 1 its at its peak not that there are 6 other versions of it,or if i can kill a bandit wearing daedric armor at level 1 then i can wear it,i shouldn't have to wait to level 20 before it even appears.as for using the slider to adjust the difficulty, that's what its there for, there is nothing wrong with raising or lowering the difficulty if things are to hard or to easy.when i play through morrowind i usually raise the slider because i go out and get skull crusher and daedric armor as soon as possible, also i get the mask of clavicus vile, the saviors hide, all very useful items.it really doesn't matter what any of us think, its all dependent on how you want to play the game, just play the way your comfortable playing and have fun, that's what its all about, having fun,not what some one else says is right or wrong.hope this helps.have fun gaming.|||Ha! You ain't seen nothing yet. I'm not being a leet but go try Demon's Souls (PS3 only!!!) and see how it tests your patience and perseverance while dying repeatedly round very every corner AND not having save points no matter how far you are into the game. It is voted the hardest and one of the best RPG game ever.|||im not being rude just honest all thoughs games are crap especially oblivion if you want a real rpg go get two world 2 that is the **** right there|||thats a good question i got oblivion elder scrolls and i was irritated and stopped playing it because of that. i believe the levels of enemies should go up with you but a lot slower so they are always weaker than you but still a small challenge. i like the games like borderlands where your opponents levels vary on when that area is discovered. so the level varies in what area you are in. i believe this is what makes a good RPG. and personally i dont like the way the character moves in games like oblivion and fallout it annoys me because it could be so much better if that small thing was fixed. but these are just my opinions..|||persoanally i could never play morrowind, (i have goty edition for my pc) i would need to get seriously into it, (an dif my crappy compaq evo would run it, i would). morrowind bassically statred you at zero, i mean actually 0, i made a mistake early on when playing and lfft my blade-daggers, at 0 and my long swords at 20, i only had a dagger at start, so i i was doing no damage what so ever, just basically poked him 20 times, got dominated by a feild rat in under 20 minutes, while running for my life.

you do bring up a good point, more modern games have made it easier to understand/use and become easier to novice users, i remember when lockpicking was hard in oblivion , now i can do it by just listening, up, up click, x5 wow did a very hard lock. and oblivion started you out with alot of points in mayjor skills (like 35-40) and gave all skills a almost minimum of 5-10, and at that, you could still kill major enemys, and alowwed you to change the difficulty to 0 (it starts at like 35% by default) they also removed the chance factor, now you will always do the spell.

i used to mod oblivion, and it got borring, i had a grim reaper black glass sythe, that which caused like 5000 fire damage and "sent to hell for 5 sec." which left them on fire forever, without doing damage (that is if they were knock uncouncious) they were cursed to hell, which was cool, epic, and sweet. but it ruined the challenge for it.

even before i had statrting modding oblivion, i used umbra (i was a level 5) and if you don't know umbra is the most strongest sword in the game, a black longsword, and you need a level 20 to start the quest, but can kill umbra at any time, any level. and it did ruin the game, i did miss using iron weapons, usually only used them for the first hour of the game., i usually just kiled a guard stole his silver longsword and armor, which is utter bullcrap, i remember NO ONE f##KED WITH THE GUARDS ON MORROWIND!!! i could never kill one on a low level. oblivion on the other hand, iron claymore, 2 minute max, on mid difficulty and flare being used. ( i mean if i was completly a noob at the game, and it was actually the first thing i did, when i started)

i do also hate becoming a god at level 5, the game becomes too easy, unlike morrowind it was a challenge and only hardcore fans could survive. which i really need to get into morrowind, have loged less than 15 hours, i loged over 600 hours on oblivion (pc only) and on xbox i have logged over 150 hours. i do see wht you mean, i hope skyrim goes down the right path, fallout 3 was better, let you rely on a 32 rifle for a while, not giving you a mini gun right away. still is short lived. they are going back to their roots, hopefully skyrim and i guess Dragon age 2, might be more hardcore.

i am a heavy elder scrolls veteran, i have played the 1st, 2nd one, 15hrs on the 3rd, and like 750hrs on the 4th. i hope this is what you wanted to hear.
